Raised in a picturesque but poor village in Italy, the young boy, Rocco Granata, sees his father, Salvatore, leave the family in high hopes of creating a better future for them as a coal worker in Belgium. As the rest of the family reunite with him one year later, they soon discover the life of an immigrant worker. Rocco starts taking accordion lessons and summons up the courage to follow his passion against his father’s wishes and social barriers.
